Annual Painting Award

Entries must be postmarked before February 1, 2009. Entries will be screened by independent judges.
General Rules:
Purpose of the competition:
To pay tribute to Anne Marie Drawson, designer, artist and mother— and to offer a significant non-corporate, non-governmental cash prize and public exposure to Canadians seriously pursuing the art of painting in oil, acrylic or egg tempera.
Eligibility:
All painters who are Canadian residents are eligible except those currently or formerly associated with the Gallery. No former or present employees or volunteers, nor will any artists formerly associated with the ACA Gallery be eligible. No artists who have exclusive contracts with other galleries will be eligible. Must be 18 years or over. No full-timie students (no one enrolled in a post secondary educational program). Independent jurors to be announced.
Prizes:
25 semi-finalists will be given the opportunity to show their paintings for two weeks in 2009 as part of a semi-finalist group show at the ACA Gallery at 183 Queen Street East, Toronto. All costs of framing, and shipping to be borne by the individual artists. A high quality catalogue of the show will be produced by the Gallery. Semi-finalists will each receive one free copy of the catalogue. Sales resulting from the semi-finalists’ show will be subject to the gallery’s regular 40% commission which the gallery donates to the Spirit Fund, a fund for people in need.
First Prize: $5000
The $5000 prize winner will be announced at ACA Gallery on the last day of the semi-finalist show, and the winner will be notified at the show.The winning image will become the property of the gallery and a part of the gallery's permanent collection.
Semi-finalists and first prize winner will also be notified by e-mail.
Subjects for contest submission:
Any subject other than pornography, which is painted in oil, acrylic or egg tempera will be admitted to the contest. Works must be presented on CDs with 300ppi images of the work(s) in dimensions of up to 8X10 inches. Only CDs will be accepted for entry. No prints or slides. All non-winning CDs will be destroyed.
Entry Fees:
$35 for up to three paintings; $25 for each additional image, limit of a total of six. Must be paid by a cheque made out to ACA Gallery. No other form of payment is accepted. Entry fees are non-refundable. Your cancelled cheque will be your proof that your entry has been accepted.
Artist releases:
Releases must be included with images, stating that you are the sole owner of the painting(s), that you have signed permission of any prominently featured person in the painting(s), and that you have read the rules of the competition and understand that the winning painting will become the property of ACA Gallery (upon presentation of the prize money). Your release must also state that you understand that no photos of paintings will be returned and that all non-winning disks will be destroyed. Your release must be signed and dated. Your release must grant ACA Gallery permission to use your painting in the catalogue of semi-finalists should you win, and in any media that may wish to feature the winning painting.Entries will be judged on the basis of a minimum of 100 entries.

The entry information below, your release for submitted images plus: One standard size CD with your CV, including your training and professional activities. Name, address and contact information.
Three images at 300 ppi resolution with dimensions not to exceed 8X10 inches. You may also submit up to three additional images for a fee of $25 each. Overall image file size is limited to 25 megabytes. Save as Tiff files playable on either Macintosh or PC platforms. When titling a file start with your last name first, then first name then title of work. Please make sure that your files open correctly on both platforms.
What NOT to do:
DO NOT contact the gallery other than to send your CD, CV and cheque.
All persons calling or e-mailing the Gallery for contest information will be
automatically disqualified
